In "The Sea Of Monsters" after Annabeth, Percy, and Tyson got punished, Percy and Annabeth were going to ask Tantalus for permission to go on a quest. They wanted to do it at supper so he would have a hard time saying "no". So, supper came and Percy and Annabeth stood up and asked permission to go on a quest. Tantalus said that the cmap didn't need to be saved, but then everyone started chanting, "We need a quest! We need a quest!" so Tantalus said he would grant permission the winner to go a a quest. The winner was the champion of the chariot race, which was Clarisse. Percy and Annabeth didn't think that was fair because Grover was their friend and they are the ones who asked for a quest. Tantalus said it didn't matter and Clarisse would set off on a journey to the Sea Of Monsters to get the Golden Fleece and save the camp. That night Percy went out by the water and sat there drinking Coke, when a jogger came by and sat down and drank some Coke with him. It ended up being Hermes and he gave Percy a thermos of wind, which could send you somewhere using wind at a very high speed, some vitamins that could heal you or prevent you from being hurt, and three yellow duffel bags full of stuff like money and cloths and other important stuff. Hermes wanted them to go on the quest to save Luke, because you don't give up on family. Then Hermes jogged off and Annabeth and Tyson came down. There was a ship in the distance and even though they would get expelled for leaving Percy prayed to his father for help and some fish came and they hopped on the three fishes back and set off for the big ship in the distance.
When the got to the ship, the looked around being careful not to get caught, but there didn't seem to be anyone on the ship. So, they found a room that was empty and they all slept for the night. The next morning, Tyson said he smelled something bad and that means there is a monster around. They walked around and then Percy heard a familiar voice......it was Luke. Luke had tried to kill Percy before and he betrayed the gods to go on Kronos side. Then Luke saw the three of them and took them into a room. Percy told him why he was on the quest and Luke got mad at the sound of his father's name. Luke tried to persuade them to join Kronos side but it didn't work. Luke told his monster body guards to take them down in the bottom of the ship, but then the ran and hopped on a life boat and sailed away.
I could really visualize seeing Luke for the first time in a long time, and how hard it would have been to say "no" to joining Kronos side. Luke made it very hard to say "no". He said that the gods were using him, and some day Kronos would come alive again (because monsters could never die) and he made it sound very convincing. I can imagine the hate that filled Percy when he heard Luke's voice for the for the time since he tried to kill him. The book was written so well, I could really picture everything going on. It's really a good book.

Chrissy,
ReplyDeleteThis is the second book in the series that you have read. Do you think you will read the rest of the books in the series? If so, what do you like best about the series?
Ms. Brewer
I am going to read the rest of the series. The things I like best are the adventures they go on and how that makes their friendship stronger. And I like the gods in the books, because I like how there is an explanation for everything.
